ASUS AC88U CFE no web server

I booted my AC88U into the recovery mode but there is no web server running on it. I can ping it but connections simply timeout when attempting to connect the browser to it.

There is only ssh over wired cable to LAN in recovery mode.
You can reset the system or edit back settings you messed up
https://openwrt.org/docs/guide-user/troubleshooting/failsafe_and_factory_reset#fixing_your_settings

Your link there appears to be for OpenWRT. I do not have OpenWRT installed. I am very much so attempting to install it. If you see the link for the installation instructions below, it refers to setting CFE recovery mode and then browsing to the server to do the initial installation:

It is broadcom wifi router, your best chance is merlin asuswrt mod.

If you want to go through torture of semi-supported device with OpenWRT -

Basically ASUS has 2 recovery modes:

  • boot with WPS or reset pressed (sepends on device) - firmware recovery with ASUS windows recovery utility, involving uploading firmware over their own protocols
  • hold down reset for 30s on booted device - resets OEM configuration to what is printed on the label.

I assume you started in 1st mode - no, it will not have anything normally usable running. You need to use recovery tool with )OEM) firmware tool.

Thanks! I've been in the middle of a move so not had time to revisit. Hopefully after Christmas so I'll work on it and respond. Getting the HVAC working before winter hit took priority. LOL

Ok, apparently I missed a step. I need to fully configure the router to use and then go in and attempt to follow the instructions. Worked perfectly.
