Archer C6 v3.2 totally missing wireless radios

Hi!
I've installed snapshot build 'OpenWrt SNAPSHOT r17795-b519997ab9' on a fresh Archer C6 v3.2, and there is totally no wireless. There is no "wireless" file in /etc/config to enable it. On Luci there is no even traces of wireless.
lspci shows:
0:00.0 PCI bridge: Device 0e8d:0801 (rev 01)
00:01.0 PCI bridge: Device 0e8d:0801 (rev 01)
01:00.0 Network controller: MEDIATEK Corp. Device 7603
02:00.0 Unclassified device [0002]: MEDIATEK Corp. Device 7663

What am I doing wrong?
thx

what does dmesg say ?

are the packages for wireless installed ?

Hi!
I'm new to openwrt snapshots, but this device works only from snapshot. I don"t know, in snapshots wireless is installed/partially installed/fully...
opkg list | grep wireless | grep kmod | wc -l gives 34, so at least 34 kernel wireless modules is installed. iwinfo gives nothing.

check if the firmware matching the kmod is installed, if there's one ...

Hi,
I couldn't find any.
May be I need recover original firmware to use device till snapshots will work on this router again.(there are traces of working snaps in forums) Or I'll try to create a development VM to build own snapshots and rollback to summer driver versions :slight_smile: But it takes time...

At least checking https://downloads.openwrt.org/snapshots/targets/ramips/mt7621/openwrt-rami
ps-mt7621-tplink_archer-c6-v3-squashfs-sysupgrade.bin suggests that the necessary DEVICE_PACKAGES (kmod-mt7603 kmod-mt7615e kmod-mt7663-firmware-ap kmod-mt7663-firmware-sta) are not installed in the current snapshot of the day. This is probably an intermittent issue with mt76 on mt7621 and might be solved tomorrow or in a few days. If you need a fix now, you can probably builds from master now, chances are that you can include the necessary packages there (or at least have more means to debug the issue and get a fix working).

kmod-mt7663-firmware-sta has been removed from the builds. See:

and

https://git.openwrt.org/?p=openwrt/openwrt.git;a=commit;h=a1ac8728f80314c574201013e7fea58536c2b3ee

Correct, I grep'ed through a slightly dated checkout, but still - all the other DEVICE_PACKAGES are missing from current snapshot builds (at least for that device).

I just did a build from master (r17814-eeeb9b7496) (basic config + LuCI) and everything is fine with Archer C6 v3 radios. It may be in fact an issue with the current snapshots builds.

Hi,
Thanx, I'll wait some for corrected snapshots (or if I'll have free time, learn openwrt deeper to build it on my own...)

Unfortunately I`ve just checked and confirmed that today's build (Sat Oct 23 09:38:22 2021) is still missing the radio packages.

I`ve tried to manually add the missing packages:

opkg install kmod-cfg80211 kmod-mac80211 kmod-mt7603 kmod-mt7615-firmware kmod-mt7615e kmod-mt7663-firmware-ap

But at the end the following errors were reported:

Collected errors:
 * opkg_install_cmd: Cannot install package kmod-mt7603.
 * opkg_install_cmd: Cannot install package kmod-mt7615-firmware.
 * opkg_install_cmd: Cannot install package kmod-mt7615e.
 * opkg_install_cmd: Cannot install package kmod-mt7663-firmware-ap.

So it seems that in fact the current build process is totally missing these packages. The only solution at this moment is doing our own builds or then waiting for this issue to be fixed.

I really hope that Archer C6 v3 builds will be added to the stable 21.02.1 builds.

Missing DEVICE_PACKAGES are silently ignored, probably they failed to build - details you can check either with the buildbot logs or trying to compile it locally (if you want to actually fix the situation, this would be needed either way).

Building locally everything is OK.

There was a commit for mt76 WLAN drivers 13 hours ago that "fix unresolved symbols"

Perhaps the next snapshot build will include this commit and not fail :stuck_out_tongue:

Hi,
(I was away few days)
The Oct 25 snapshot is working on Archer C6 3.2! I've not much time to test, but at least 2,4Ghz ok. Luci also shows wireless devices right after start.
Thanx
