My parents currently have a D-Link DIR-825 B1 all the way back from 2008 or so, running OpenWrt 23.05.5 on a 100/100 Mbps connection. There's a Pi Zero connected through an Ethernet gadget doing DNS with adblocking and Wireguard. There are only a handful of devices and a TV doing light browsing, streaming and video calls. The router can do full 100/100 Mbps over wireless according to speed tests. WPA3 seems to work just fine. Are they missing anything by not upgrading to the latest and greatest?
8/64 is very likely to get discontinued after 24.10, just wait for another year with purchase.

If it ain't broke, don't fix it. I'd stick with that device as long as 23.05 is receiving security updates...
