AmneziaWG not in repo

Hi all,

Is there a reason why AmneziaWG is not in the offical OpenWrt repo to replace the existing Wireguard package? It seems to provide a good way to circumvent DPI.

Are there any plans to incorporate this into the main OpenWrt repo in the near future?

does the whole world support AmneziaWG ?

Why should a commercial product, intended for a specific use case, replace a standard open source product, intended for a generic use case?

Rather than replace, it could be offered as an option? It is also open source as far as I can tell?

But I guess someone needs to become the package maintainer.

Exactly!

It is a commercial third party product let them host and maintain their own repository

Requirements for the OpenWrt package feeds:

  • the license must allow legal redistribution, explicitly and without contradictions (license incompatibilities)
  • someone must step up to package- and maintain it
  • the software needs to be deemed trustworthy/ secure 'enough'

AmneziaWG has a rather strongly localized following, developers in other parts of the world don't really (need to) care about the aspects it does differently, which self-selects its following. It's rather high-maintenance, in the sense of being a whack-a-mole to keep (successfully) avoiding detection, which is not great for a stable release (but not a disqualification either).

So far I've rather often seen the desire for AmneziaWG, but I have not seen anyone wanting to maintain it, but this would be the most important aspect.

On the Amneziawg website there are instructions:

It directs you to this website:

There you can find the apk's for Amneziawg.

Good luck with it

Thank you all very much for your replies. I didn’t realise this was a commercial endeavour. I thought it was a fork of WG with enhanced support for DPI avoidance etc.
