Advice to remotely access my network

Hi,

I would like to access my network remotely, but not sure which direction to take.

I have a very small network, consists of a Linksys WRT1900AC which I’ve setup duckdns on. I have an unraid server, connected. I want to be able to login to the router and use etherwake or other magic packet sender to wake up my unraid box, do a backup remotely and shutdown the unraid box. Only need the unraid box on for a few hours per week.

I have tried to do this with both ssh and luci and it’s working. However I have learnt this is a very bad and unsecure method to open and forward port 22.

What if I set a really secure password on the router? Still pretty insecure?
SSH keys?

Https I can’t seem to get working, but gather this is still a stupid way to access the router?

Not sure where I go from here.

Thanks

The usual advice would be to set up road-warrior style VPN access, e.g. via wireguard.
