Adding Support For ZyXEL VMG7947-B40A (o2 HomeBox 6641)

I looked at the support for ZyXEL VMG7947-B40A (o2 HomeBox 6641) It looks very similar to the Comtrend VR-3032u. It has also a NAND flash and the same SoC. However, the 6641 uses a Toshiba TC58NVG0S3HTAI0. I guess I try could adding an image based on the Comtrend VR-3032u. I am unsure what I need to change in the device tree to support the 1G NAND flash. Further, do I need to add some kernel flag to add support for the Toshiba flash? If I try uploading an image, I could potentially break the cfe bootloader?

@Noltari could you help me?

A bootlog may help to see NAND flash partitions and the ECC used by the driver.

Do you have access to the UART serial console and the CFE command line?, this way you could load an OpenWrt RAM firmware without touching anything in the flash.

Is the stock firmware and source code available anywhere?

Is the cfe able to tftpboot? If so, that sounds good. :slight_smile:
Is it enough to add those lines to create a initramfs image?

CONFIG_TARGET_INITRAMFS_COMPRESSION_NONE=y
CONFIG_TARGET_ROOTFS_INITRAMFS=y

Yes, for example here:

The serial adapter was turned off after cfe was booted. I did not test myself to get into cfe. CFE recovery definitely worked. I would love to test again, however I can not access the device right now. I will report back as soon as I can test again.

Thanks for your help!

I may be stating the obvious, but you are aware that xDSL modem, FXS ports, DECT and wireless are 'never' going to be supportable, leaving you with just an aging 2*400 MHz wired only mips router (which won't do much more than VDSL speeds) with 4 ethernet ports and 64 MB RAM?

Yes. I help someone to get in touch with OpenWrt. I also want to gain more experience in adding device support. :slight_smile:

Just use this menuconfig option:

image

Then on the CFE command console execute a command like this:
r 192.168.1.7:openwrt-ramfs.elf

192.168.1.7 should be the IP from the TFTP server with the openwrt-initramfs.elf image

Hello, everyone.

  1. Sorry for Google-Translate !!!

  2. I own a Homebox 6641 with an open serial connector.
    Here is a bootlog from an older standart-firmware. I hope it helps you.
