Adding support for 22.03 on Netgear DGN3500

Hi all.
There is a Netgear DGN3500 router.
It currently has official support for OpenWRT 22.03.2.
But when you try to install it, a brick appears.
This is due to the fact that the kernel section has a size of 2.2mb. and kernel 5.10 from 22.03 can't fit.
It's even officially written on the Wiki.
And the maximum working version of OpenWRT is 21.02.5

I ask the developers to fix this problem, and please, add support for 22.03 for the DGN3500 router

Hello.

  1. OpenWrt is an open source software, it comes with no warranty that it will work for a peculiar purpose.
  2. If the problem could be solved easily, it would have been done already. On such old device, it seems obvious that new kernels can't fit. Don't even try. You already know this.
  1. Such devices are only supported for vintage purpose. Enthousiastic users know how to create a tiny custom build that will "more or less" work.
  2. Stay on 21.02.5.
  3. You forgot to say "please".
  1. There are not so many users of the DGN3500, and no one has contacted the OpenWRT developers about solving the problem.
If it was some Xiaomi for an affordable price with the same meager core section, then enthusiasts / developers would have found a solution to the problem.

I am the first person to publicly report this issue, and I ask the developers to pay attention to this so that they can somehow fix it

If the device is old, this does not mean that it should be stored. There aren't many DSL routers that are fully functional and this is a strong reason to fix this problem.

  1. Where is the enthusiast section so I can write to them?
