did anyone lose 5GHz at some point? I’m now seeing it as “MediaTek MT7915E 802.11ac/ax/n” and sayys device is not active. I took time to notice because I’m most of the time connected via ethernet ![]()
From my experience the best OpenWRT version for this router is 23.05.6.
For all other versions like 24.10 or 25.12 it's just a sad experience.
What's sad about latest releases? See no regressions running 25.12.2. I've experienced disabled 5GHz device in the past but was it hard to bring it back on?
What kind of speeds are we talking about? I roam between two AX3200 (wired backhaul) and see no problems like that. But my WAN is rather modest 200 Mbit (symmetric).
I wonder if users of RT3200 experienced anything similar...
BTW, you're lucky to get wire speed. Are you using hardware offloading?
Are you using WED too?
Mediatek mt7622 hardware flow offloading - #14 by timur.davletshin - there is some weird HW initialization problem with WED which was confirmed by other users. Plugging power off helps to fix stuck 5GHz radio.
I bet WED problem has got nothing to do with Energy Efficient Ethernet.
at the end… I just share my experience with ax3200
not using WED, confirmed $(cat /sys/module/mt7915e/parameters/wed_enable) == N
I noticed /sys/kernel/debug/ppe0/bind is empty but /sys/kernel/debug/ppe0/entries isn’t though. don’t know what to do with this information. “Flow offloading type” is set to None in luci’s firewall settings.
PPE table is never empty even if it is not used.
Okay I guess… I was reading the post you linked and the person who replied there seemed to have implied so.
Anyway, I've got WED off. I shouldn't have problems with 5GHz, supposedly?
Probably you need to plug your router off and on, regular reboot was not enough. There were some strange HW initialization issues with WED and PPE (HW offloading). Whenever you change WED status radio could get stuck in disabled state. PPE entries were survining regular reboot. But those bugs were not critical. PPE was fixed after my bugreport but I'm not so sure about WED.
Things is it was already off I didn't change anything :///
So, WED is (and was) off and you have stuck in disabled state 5GHz radio? Have you tried to reset the device?
yes WED was off and I’ve tried to factory reset the device to no avail.
it appears enabled, says:
radio1
MediaTek MT7915E 802.11ac/ax/n
Channel: 36 (5.180 GHz) | Bitrate: ? Mbit/s
–-dBm SSID: (my SSID) | Mode: Master
BSSID (BSSID) | Encryption: WPA2 PSK (CCMP)
What's the problem then if it appears enabled?
https://downloads.openwrt.org/releases/25.12.3/targets/mediatek/mt7622/ - upgrade to 25.12.3 went as planned. No negative changed so far.
Not official yet, you shouldn't have.
If you can get it in owut, then it's official...
