Managed to upgrade to RC4, but it was a rough ride because I forgot to rename the image to factory.bin. Maybe good to add the cp to factory.bin step to the tutorial. Others might overlook this step as well leading to a soft brick...
/I know it's my own fault though! I should have read to tutorial carfully...
Hey guys, If we do a restore configuration files from a previous backup.tar.gz archive, either through Luci or SSH, do we risk bricking this router?
What do you mean previous backup? You mean from previous release?
I don't think so, but better scp files from /etc/config and compare old file with new using eg. vimdiff then send it back
For instance, on latest openwrt release for this router, if I do from Luci: System/Backup/Generate archive, can I also restore that archive right away through Luci (or at least with SSH commands like sysupgrade -r /tmp/backup-*.tar.gz)
You suggest to go the linux vimdiff way of comparing files, so better not to restore configuration like I mentioned above, right?
So if you are running same version - backup and restore is working normally.
If you want to restore backup from previous release - I don't know. I usually using snapshot.
You can try, I don't think that it can brick your device, but maybe someone else can confirm.
In 99.9% everything will work. From what I know, there may be problems with Wi-Fi, but they can be solved by directly editing the config by adding one phrase of several letters)))...
I have a laptop with no rj45 port, and if ethernet cable is needed i have to move the router to another place where the PC stands. So if needed, I gues I can use a usb3.0 to rj45 adapter on the laptop to connect to this router for flashing/tftp stuff, it should be the same as the standard rj45 to rj45, right?
Right, all would be fine with USB network card.
Sysupgrade OpenWrt 24.10.0-RC4 -> RC5 went flawlessly. It issued the warning about image incompatibility but since I already upgraded flash layout I just ignored it. So far so good.
Can someone give an up to date summary on the current status on this router?
- Can you install Openwrt on both Chinese and International versions? (using Xmir Patcher)?
- You still need to fix the reboot bug using uboot env vars (on both models)?
- You need to always install using clean factory image instead of sysupgrade image?
Sorry if I'm asking the same questions, but this thread and the wiki page is way too long and confusing,
Hi! My router on OpenWrt ver 23.05 still suffers from stucking in a bootloop, even though I already applied the configuration below. The issue is that when I reboot the router it continuously fails to boot for 60-70 times and then it magically boots up. This issue was not present right after installing OpenWrt because I could reboot the device normally 10-15 times. It is 2 weeks since I installed the firmware. Any help would be appreciated.
fw_setenv boot_fw1 "run boot_rd_img;bootm"
fw_setenv flag_try_sys1_failed 8
fw_setenv flag_try_sys2_failed 8
fw_setenv flag_boot_rootfs 0
fw_setenv flag_boot_success 1
fw_setenv flag_last_success 1
Hi!
I am trying to switch to OpenWrt at my AX3200 RB01, it was produced about end 2023.
I have connected it to the serial port and successfully downgraded it from 1.0.83 to 1.0.71, now the console output does not stop at the very beginning.
However, I still fail to get the >MT7622 command prompt, as any other state where I can write anything at the console. It refuses any attempt to connect to telnet/SSH ports.
As advised, I plug off the power cable when erasing begins at different moments, but the device still reboots with 1.0.71.
Any hint how to proceed?
A month ago I flashed mine (Rb01 april 2024) using the steps in this post
Basically, Yes to all of your questions (regarding 3rd maybe sysupgrade possible by command line only)
Thank you fdauti!
Excellent! OpenWrt works now at this router!
To answer my own question: I did not need to update the ubi loader.
I did “ Flash new firmware image” with the rc5 sysupgrade.itb file, without keeping settings.
