I guess it would be better to either ask Unworried3946 for AX1800 firmware (I have AX23), you can also check snapshot version of OpenWRT firmware that already has our lines merged in. But beware that snapshot version doesn't have Luci WebUI pre-installed, you'll have to either build your image with Luci, or install Luci through SSH.

Quick question has anyone tried snapshot with this 2gbps commit in place? What are your routing speeds. Iām considering moving from an Archer C6 which currently only does 250/450 across Wireless in Dumb AP mode and 450/450 on LAN
I guess I can use the 23.05.0-rc3 release candidate for the router even though the device page lists snapshot? The support commit was on March 15th and rc3 is from August 22nd. Can someone confirm please?
Yes, you can use the images linked on the device page. I have been using the device over several months now, with around 10 different images build from main/master (therefor snapshots) and apart from the earlier issues mentioned in the thread, and which have been solved, there have been no further derailments.
Well I was asking whether I can user RC image (which you did not respond to)...
One more question - the ASUS RT-AX53U (RT-AX1800U) is said not to support 160MHz channels in 5GHz. This AX23 has the same hardware like Asus but no comment on 160MHz channels. Does AX23 support these? The default TP-Link firmware does support them as they can be seen in web interface on emulator.
Yes you can. A RC can be treated similarly to a snapshot. There have been other snapshots before and there have been snapshots after. If your device is listed as having an image in a rc-download list, you can download and install it. This has been the case for the AX23v1 with 23.05.0-rc1 already.
As for the 160MHZ question: haven't check this, since I can't use it anyways, however, there is an extensive thread on issues related to this and the chipset of the AX23v1. Not sure if it got "fixed" now and doubly not sure if this is part of the latest RC: 802.11ax worse than 802.11ac with mt76 driver?
For that matter, support for the AX23v1 was backported to 22.03 and 22.03.5 images are available.
The ToH info requires manual updates and it looks like the AX23v1 page hasn't been updated to reflect the 22.03.5 release.
I just flashed the firmware from here: https://downloads.openwrt.org/releases/23.05.0-rc3/targets/ramips/mt7621/, file tplink_archer-ax23-v1-squashfs-factory.bin, on a freshly unboxed Archer AX23(US) v1.20, and it worked perfectly. Just for the record.
The above comment convinced me to go ahead and flash my ax23 (same model, AX23(US) v1.20). In fact I have flashed the latest in https://downloads.openwrt.org/releases/23.05.0/targets/ramips/mt7621/. So far it's been working great!
Regarding the "Qualcomm" chipset wording, I noticed that if you go to TP-Link's product page and toggle between v1 and v1.2 this difference (emphasis mine):
AX23 v1
The Next-Gen High-Efficiency Qualcomm Chipset provides fast and stable Wi-Fi while saving power consumption.
AX23 v1.2
The Next-Gen High-Efficiency Chipset provides fast and stable Wi-Fi while saving power consumption.
TP-Link usually don't change SoCs mid version, and v1 is Mediatek.
I have had a bunch of both devices in hand and they are both Mediathek. This looks like a marketing error.

I observed that wifi speed is capped by approx. 450 Mbit/s. When working with wi-fi on a speed close to that, load average on the router increases significantly (up to approx. 1.45). Although I use NAT when testing, I still find it odd because it doesn't happen over the ethernet wire: ethernet traffic is NATted as well, on half-gigabit speeds over ethernet load average barely changes. As I understand, wireless traffic is encrypted while ethernet is not; however, I'd expect that to be handled by dedicated piece of hardware (wireless radio modem?). Seeing that LA increases, I assume that the reason is not the physical conditions for radiowaves but rather the software.
When looking at the top
output when running speedtest, on ethernet it doesn't really change; on wifi there are few processes that bubble up:
266 2 root RW 0 0% 24% [napi/mtk_eth-6]
666 2 root RW 0 0% 18% [mt76-tx phy0]
653 2 root RW 0 0% 18% [napi/phy0-9]
654 2 root RW 0 0% 11% [napi/phy0-10]
265 2 root SW 0 0% 7% [napi/mtk_eth-5]
23 2 root RW 0 0% 6% [ksoftirqd/2]
18 2 root RW 0 0% 2% [ksoftirqd/1]
12 2 root SW 0 0% 1% [ksoftirqd/0]
28 2 root SW 0 0% 1% [ksoftirqd/3]
Is it expected that processing wireless traffic significantly increases load average? Is there any configuration options I should check?
I have AX23 v1.20 with MediaTek MT7915E wireless radios.

@kamazee which Openwrt release are you using?
@hecatae OpenWrt 23.05.4, r24012-d8dd03c46f
There's been suggestions that the mt76 wifi in 23.05.4 is wonky, could you try 23.05.3?
I have one running 23.05.4 in a remote location, not really doing any heavy lifting, on a 100/100 FTTH, no issues whatsoever ...
