You can always flash a recovery image again via the recovery web interface.
Connect the ethernet cable first (the bootloader only negotiates the link speed once while entering recovery, connecting ethernet later mostly won't work).
Make sure to assign an ip address manually in the 192.168.0.x subnet. Chromium-based browsers should work better than Firefox on most operating systems. It's normal it won't respond to ping, just http.
Browsers also often change the URL in your address bar to https when you least expect it, make sure it only says http:// there.
Thank you, I will try again. Yesterday I couldn't access the recovery web UI anymore although the red led was blinking. I will stay strict to your guide and try again. Thanks.
ensure the network interface on the client is configured correctly and all other Interfaces are turned off
push the reset button and holding while plugging the covr ax1860 into the socket
open a private tab on the browser and ensure http://192.168.0.1 is typed in but not pressing enter now
connecting the LAN cable into the covr ax1860
hit enter in the browser...
recovery web UI appears and upload now the correct recovery firmware.
The problem I ran into: I just looked at the OpenWrt device page and there is no link to the recovery firmware. But if you search via firmware selector you can find the recovery image for the device. Stupid mistake and thanks for the great help!
In case I want to go back to stock firmware, how do I reinstall it after I tried OpenWRT on this device? On the device page I don't see instructions to go back to stock.
Just installed openwrt on my two COVR-X1860 devices in the past week. I'm using wpadmeshopenssl for wireless backhaul. Both nodes have the same SSID and password.
Not having any issues other than a feature in the Proton VPN android app not working when connected the wifi through the openwrt network. On a separate network it works fine.
I want to have the function enabled to interact with the various smart home devices I have on the LAN without using split tunnelling - if I could split tunnel a range of IPs in the proton app that would work but unfortunately that is not the case.
Not sure what other details I can but if someone could point in me in the right direction I would be really appreciative!
