the problem is that ports 1 to 3 arent working and the utility cannot get a response from the router.
So I see UART as being the only way.
the problem is that ports 1 to 3 arent working and the utility cannot get a response from the router.
So I see UART as being the only way.
So heres whats going on. I had a snap shot loaded on the router but I had to power cycle it. now only the power light and the wan light stay on but there is no way to get inside the router without using UART. or serial.
I have tried using the "rescue mode" but only lan ports 3 to 8 work. the blue port is not working no matter what I do.
I am able to get into the routers command line via serial console command but at this point, I dont know what im doing exactly and could use some assistance.
I would like to think that there is a command to clear the nvram and hope for the best but again, not sure.
EDIT: it appears I can reach the OpenWRT terminal inside the serial console...
EDIT2: this is...frusterating. command "firstboot" and then "reset" did not fix the nvram thing. and im starting to think that I basically just wasted this router. like its FUBAR.
would greatly appreciate it if anyone here can help. I will upload boot log of this router later when I can.
Maybe it's missing the Luci package?

@Gin1AK-tion1 take a look at the discussion I had up here. I bricked mine too with an incompatible firmware and got it running again with the help of this nice community
These would be my approaches, starting with the easiest one:
firstboot
, maybe that suffices alreadyI am still using the snapshot that was off the Google drive. I will probably upgrade to a real image in the next week. Is there a way to get the list of packages that were pre-installed? I believe there were a bunch of custom packages on there.
it did have the luci package until I used "firstboot" in the serial console. Not SSH console. It wont give me an IP either.
I flashed this from OpenWRT to stock firmware to dd-wrt and then stock firmware and then back to OpenWRT. I dont know if NOT doing a factory reset each time is what might have did it for me...
I will take a look at your posts though.
The DD-WRT developers have some very bad ideas:
UPD: Common sense won out after all
https://github.com/mirror/dd-wrt/commit/3fe6ce6b3f10b9046de3f6a24c79e4938d21ed68#diff-3cdc08551d57876829a832a24988dad251b6973038a3fa37414582a0cc718381L466-R471
DD-WRT developers set limit to 60 degrees:
And change to 65:
And set hysteresis to 4 degrees. it just flip flops too often
:
UPD: Back to 60 degrees:
Hi all,
I have "B2" version with me. Can I flash it with OpenWrt? Will it work?
Based on information on https://openwrt.org/toh/asus/rt-ax89x, the supported version is "B". So, I want to confirm first.
Thanks.
Yeah, the hysteresis probably should be 4-5 degrees.
I am working on adding the Aquantia PHY as a thermal zone so it cools once it gets hot as well, but there is an issue with the way hwmon issues low thermal limits
Yeah, I based it on the B2 version as that is what I have
something tells me that this is what broke my router. Like possibly FUBAR levels of broke.
ill still make an attempt to fix the router, but I am considering just donating this router to an OpenWRT developer living in the USA.
No offense to my non-american folks, but your goverments are making it hard for my package to enter your country. Germany as one good example.
So B2 should work?
Yes, it will work
@remittor This is what I get when I run "mtdparts"
RT-AX89U# mtdparts
device nand0 <nand0>, # parts = 3
#: name size offset mask_flags
0: Bootloader 0x003e0000 0x00000000 0
1: environment 0x00020000 0x003e0000 0
2: UBI_DEV 0x0fc00000 0x00400000 0
active partition: nand0,0 - (Bootloader) 0x003e0000 @ 0x00000000
defaults:
mtdids : none
mtdparts: none
RT-AX89U#
So based on what I am seeing here, dd-wrt might have screwed up the routers "stored hardware configuration" to the point where I would need an a backup file of this router but from stock firmware that has everything at default.
Ports 1, 2, WAN, and the 10GBe all will not work regardless if im in serial console, rescue mode, or OpenWRT firmware.
I did look into the "kermit" protocol but that seems like another headache...
@robimarko Is it possible to flash factory stock firmware over serial? I see there is an option to "7: Load Boot Loader code then write to Flash via Serial"
EDIT: It appears the user "jferris" has exactly the same issue as me. but never got his router working so it seems.
