Adblock Vs uBlock | YouTube

I've read the previous threads regarding domain based blocking and YouTube - i.e it's very difficult/impossible to block YouTube adverts via domains because YouTube serves adverts from the same domain.

My desktop PC has uBlock installed and that always blocks YouTube adverts. Does uBlock use a different method for blocking adverts or is it using more accurately maintained lists? If it's a list issue, is there a way to use the same lists with adblock?

Browser add-ons are capable of triggering on strings in the full url, while DNS only works on DNS names.
