Please change/use "Preformatted text" (pre ) for logfile excerpts - thanks.

Your log looks OK, did you see any filled *.pcap files in /tmp dir? Is there still a process with PID 1491 running? Did you get output on CLI if you type /etc/init.d/adblock report? Do you use 'br-lan' as interface for your connected clients? if not change this and restart adblock afterwards.

Yes, one, adb_report.pcap0

No.

no, no message replied when entered the command.

Yes.

Adding to this, now the site i used to test , dailymail.co.uk is displaying ads.

Please send me that pcap file compressed to my email (dev@brenken.org). Please post the out of:

ps | grep "pcap"

and

tcpdump --help

Fixed in 4.0.3 !
thanks

I was using the Refresh button. I actually just rebuilt my router last night. Wasn't much of a big deal to do. Now, everything seems to be working. That same pcap now shows data in the report. Convinced I had some kind of conflict somewhere. Everything's good to go now, though. Appreciate the support!

@dibdot
Instead of changing the config directory (/tmp/dnsmasq.d) in /etc/config/dhcp
Create a file, for example, adblock.conf in /tmp/dnsmasq.d with the following content:
conf-file=/path/to/adb/blocklistfile
I think this should work.
When the user hasn't changed the default path, directly save the adb block list file in /tmp/dnsmasq.d
(current behavior)
This way adblock doesn't interfere with other applications that make use of this directory too.

How should i do that on the CLI?

Sorry, but i have almost zero experience in this and will like to take the least amount of assumption, so we can all move on.

@NeoMorpheus
This is unrelated to your problem.
The post I made is about adblocks behavior changing the conf dir option of dnsmasq and breaking other things.

But I tested the website you posted (https://www.detectadblock.com/) and it also shows the message for me (with browser adblock plugin). Maybe not the best website to test adblocking.

@shm0
Oh ok. sorry.

Yes, that site is kind of a false positive.

But visiting dailymail.co.uk was working before, but now, googleadsense/doubliclick is bypassing the router's adblock and the only way to block them now is using uBlock Origin in the browser.

Seems, adblock also blocks playback of videos from "Google Photos".
Turning off adblock let's me play my videos from Google Photos, but with adblock enabled most of the videos won't play (PC Chrome, Android Google Photo app).
Since adblock whitelist won't allow regex patterns, is there a way to have videos from Google Photos played with adblock enabled?

Thanks for your assistance!

so report in luci not working, I enabled it, installed tcpdump-mimi, restarted router but the page is empty.

adb_report.pcap0 is in /tmp and the file is ok, there are queries inside
/etc/init.d/adblock report does nothing. (returns nothing)

Sorry, without broken pcap file I can't help.

Just upgraded to 4.0.3 on OpenWrt 19.07.1 and have 2 issues with Reports:

  1. during the upgrade process the ports being used for tcpdump reports on v.3 were not migrated. I was able to add them in to Advanced Report Settings. However,
  2. DNS reports don't seem to pick up traffic on the additional ports (after a restart). I ran a tcpdump on the device and was able to see the traffic.

The process is correct:

/usr/sbin/tcpdump -nn -s0 -l -i br-lan port 53 or port 853 or port 5353 -C1 -W5 -w /tmp/adb_report.pcap

set the report interface to 'any' if you need to listen to multiple interfaces.

The traffic is on the same interface. Some devices use port 853.

/usr/sbin/tcpdump -nn -s0 -l -i br-lan port 53 or port 853 or port 5353 -C1 -W5 -w /tmp/adb_report.pcap

Same applies to you ... :wink: ... send me an example pcap file (email address is in the readme or a few posts above) - thanks!

Sent.

Also found that the Report info in Luci did not repopulate after a reboot of the device. Pcap was captured in the /tmp folder.
