Acer predator connect W6x

it's possible your TX isn't connected to the router's RX correctly if the device isn't registering your inputs.

You mentioned you used arrows, did any of your inputs register at all? At the U-Boot Boot Menu screen, pressing 0 should get you straight to the console.

I'll have to wait for my CH340G to arrive before I can try it.

Hi, as I mentioned above, Putty didn't work for me either. I used MobaXterm and it worked fine.

I tried MobaX and same. Chip CH340 when arrive from China my next step.

There appears to be firmware upload functionality "hidden" in the stock firmware's web gui at /#/system/backRestore. It's accessible through spam clicking on the "Restore:" text on the left (not the button) after which, a new field should show up.

I'm currently unable to test it myself. Has anyone tested the functionality yet? Also does anyone have a dump of the stock firmware they'd be willing to send me?

This is a great find!

It would be great to be able to install openwrt via stock webui. Unfortunately, I am not in procession of the device at the moment. Otherwise, I would love to help with this endeavor.

Are you looking for the actual stock firmware (which you can upload in that interface) or a dump of the ubi/ubi1 partitions?

A dump of the ubi/ubi1 partitions. Thanks :+1:

Guys, is it possible to use W6x as an access point in OpenWRT, and in that case, connect the WAN 2.5gbit port to a 2.5 Gbit switch?

Move the wan port from the wan firewall zone, to the lan zone.

Thanx @frollic

Just flashed without soldering using similar cable and electrical tape to keep the pins in place. Thanks for the hint!

I flashed using Linux with Picocom and everything worked perfectly. I only needed to select the F key instead of 0 to interrupt the boot process.

And I chose to solder the wires to ensure a secure connection.

W6x flashed with OpenWRT (uBoot layout version) here too, using the tip of securing the wires to the contacts with electrical tape. Thanks. I also took the opportunity to install version 24.10 by @aLiArLa. Everything is working perfectly.

Hi!

I just got this router specifically because I want to run OpenWRT on it.

Unfortunately, the stock firmware does not allow me to chose a VLAN for PPPoE (which is required by my ISP). I know this will be fixed with OpenWRT - but I might return it for another one that allows me to test it without opening first (so I can test it regarding range and speed before I start to screw around with it; if its not better than the ISP provided one etc.).

In any case, I tried the method of uploading firmware via web gui /#/system/backRestore, but without any results. See screenshot,

does this mean this is a dead end as ChatGPT wants me to believe?

Also, what do they mean with:

OpenWrt, it needs to be done via serial connection with USB TTL adapter, there is no need to open the router, soldering is also not needed - instructions can be found in git commit

No one have tried the backdoor webUI flashing, in worst case, it might brick your device.

AI is a moron, don't trust it for anything more advanced than how to unzip your pants, but in this case it actually seem to be correct :open_mouth:

I still have 13 days to return it... so I thought lets just give it a shot.

But, apparently, it silently rejects it due to a missing signature (according to chatgpt) and I used a .bin that cannot brick the device as its just loaded in the RAM (according to chatgpt again).

Well, so if that is a deadend I might end up with the Zyxstel after all... I just hate that it is white and has no bendeable antennas XD

Unless chatgp did an analysis of the running firmware, it has absolutely no idea what it does and doesn't do, in this case, it's completely wrong.

But hey, it's your funeral.

well, in this case not, since in the end absolutely nothing happened. And if it did, I would have returned the device.

You should give Chatgpt more credit tho, without it, I would have never found out about OpenWRT in the first place...
