A quality machine with at least 400+ Mbps troughput over OpenVPN?

I am searching for a machine with good build-quality and a well known brand.
By budget is maximum 650 EURO (Delivery inside Europe).

Yesterday I orderd a Protectli VP2430, I tought it was a quality brand. But people have scared me and told me it is just a re-branded Yanling (ylipc.com). Chinese OEM. :frowning: Dont know if it is good quality.

Thank you!

EDIT:
I forgot to write that we will use QoS SQM and no DCO.

and this is a problem .... because ?

N150 cpu supports AES-NI instructions which means it will be able to reach gigabit to single client using dco kmod easily. No difference who mounted the box together.

I am worried it will be a risk to have it on 24/7. Maybe I am just overthinking I dont know.
Netgate 4200 Max seem to have similar price, but dont know if it really support OpenWRT.

You realize where Apple Macs an iPhones are produced? Who owns Lenovo and where their production facilities are?

Atom C1110, it's a vanilla x86_64, unless the boot loader's locked down, or they use some unsupported hw, like in the Dell SD-WAN 510.

An HP T740 + a dual 10GbE or quad 1GbE NIC is only $400-500 cheaper.

Yes it is cheaper to buy a PC and run it as a router but i really want something that is made for this to be able to run 24/7.

I am not even fully comfortable with the VP2420, so guess how paranoid i am lol

The best alternative I could find is this one:
Deciso DEC740 = 850€! (but it is to expensive for me:)

VP2430 + 16GB ram = 450 €

I forgot to write that we will use QoS SQM and no DCO.

Buy 3 or 4 T740s, swap them out once you wear them out.
Won't happen, but if it makes you feel safer...

With all respect to your reply.
That device is not made to be run 24/7, and it dont even have 4x lan ports and it is also cooled by a fan. If the fan dies i dont want to know what happens.

I am searching for a better alternative made to be run as a router just like the Protectli.

:handshake:

thin clients usually are ...

then you should probably scroll back.

you replace it with one of the other 3-4 units you bought for the price of one Protectli.

More expensive to change it, downtime, time spent to restore etc.

Thank you but no thanks. :folded_hands:

you think replacing the Protectli or similar is quicker ? can I have the address to your bubble please ?

the wallet sure hurts more

Why do you get so agitated bro, go out it is summer! Enjoy the sun. :+1:

Also 4 lan ports and fanless are required?

Do you also need Coreboot bios (in case of x86 device) like on the Protectli ?
Is OpenVPN a hard requirement or is WireGuard ok as well?
(when using WireGuard this https://openwrt.org/toh/mikrotik/rb5009ug_s_in may be a viable option)

Some nice mikrotik ccr2004? It's rock solid and prowide quite good performance even for this old and unefficient openvpn protocols.
