802.11s (Mesh) and AX

I picked up some Comfast CF-853AX USB adapters and found out that they don't support 802.11s, at least on OpenWrt as of 2023-01-15, EA8300, kernel 5.15.88

        Supported interface modes:
                 * managed
                 * AP
                 * AP/VLAN
                 * monitor

I've also found that the Mediatek kernel/drivers don't support 802.11s on the MT7981B.

Neither of these surprise me as USB adapters seem intended for end-point clients and Mediatek isn't well known for open-source compatibility.

With some of the AX chips starting to get "official" OpenWrt support, are there any that have been successfully tested with or at least report 802.11s capabilities?

They will typically report

* mesh point

in the iw phy output.

For completeness, the Comfast CF-853AX shows up as

[3303105.768323] usb 2-1: reset SuperSpeed USB device number 2 using xhci-hcd
[3303105.906984] mt7921u 2-1:1.3: HW/SW Version: 0x8a108a10, Build Time: 20221109110918a
[3303105.906984]
[3303106.189049] mt7921u 2-1:1.3: WM Firmware Version: ____010000, Build Time: 20221109111005

As of recent snapshot with kernal 6.x.x, on a Linksys EA8300, still not supporting mesh, and I couldnt get wifi6e to work in AP mode either, despite iw list showing it should.
