5GHz wifi doesn't work on ZyXEL NBG6716 after upgrading to 21.02.0

Hi there,

I just upgraded my ZyXEL NBG6716 to OpenWRT 21.02.0 via tftp upgrade and started from scratch, but 5 GHz wifi interface doesn't come up at all.

I did some researching on this issue and found several hints.

To be sure I reflashed the device to the latest ZyXEL stock firmware (V1.00(AAKG.12)C0) just to be sure the rf cal data is correct. Before I was running OpenWRT 19.07.8 without any issues and I will go back now to 19.07.8.

However, since it might only affect a fraction of people, let's just wait until somebody reports that problem.

Maybe my device is one of the mentioned devices @adrianschmutzler ?

I'm not a owner of this device, but found something in your logs.

Within the wiki (https://openwrt.org/toh/zyxel/nbg6716) is written: You have to set a MAC address to the single VAPs. If you don't set a MAC, you risk firmware reboots.
Do you have a mac within your network config for wlan 5GHz? (https://openwrt.org/toh/zyxel/nbg6716#wifi)

maybe you are right and I just have to manually adjust the config file and add a MAC address to get the 5GHz wifi working. But I want to help to get the next stable release working with this device version out of the box, that's the way it should be on a stable release, isn't it?

I will test what ever is necessary to get this working. I will try this within the next days. At the moment, there is no entry in /etc/config/wireless for a 802.11a/n/ac wifi adapter, even when I delete the wireless config and rerun "wifi" on command line, it's still missing.

OK, still no changes in 21.02.2, 5GHz wifi pci device is not initialized at all at startup.

I have changed to ath10k-firmware-qca988x & kmod-ath10k without success, also setting a mac address manually in the wireless config hasn't changed anything.

Is there a file "cal-pci-0000%3A00%3A00.0.bin" in the firmware/ath10k folder? The card cannot be initialized without this file. It contains the mac address. Actually, it should create this file automatically, but I think your "art" partition may have been deleted.

But there should be a second file named cal-pci-0000:01:00.0.bin or cal-pci-0001:00:00.0.bin I guess? It's not there.

Also there is a subdirectory inside that directory called QCA988X/hw2.0/ with two more files:
board.bin
firmware-5.bin

Also, when I go back to OpenWRT 19.07.8 everything works fine and I guess 19.07.8 also needs the "art" partition to work properly? Stock firmware also works fine with both wifi adapters.

Anybody out there with this device? I need to know if this is an individual issue or a general bug.
