2G Synchronous WAN router recommendation in UK

Hi,

ISP upgraded me to 2GB sync connection for a lower price then my existing 1GB connection.

I currently have a mikrotik 750GR3 running openwrt and 2 unifi AC SHD (wifi 5) APs. It looks like youfibre will provide Sagemcom FAST 5598 which i doubt I can flash with Openwrt. What recommendations are there for a router with min 2x 2.5GBE ports for the least amount of money in the UK :). I looked at Brume 3 but that doesnt appear to be able to run pure openwrt. Thanks in advance

ISP (Hyperoptic, QuickLine, Trooli, Grain) branded EX5601's off eBay, ~55£ and up, unless you get lucky.

Might take a while before the Brume 3 is supported, switch chip code isn't public - https://github.com/openwrt/openwrt/pull/21728#discussion_r2747437774.

I'd put my money on Beryl 7 - https://github.com/openwrt/openwrt/pull/22476.

Those devices are however still 2x the price of the EX5601, or more.

Thanks for the quick response. Am i correct that to flash openwrt on ex5601 you need to use serial conenction. I dont think i can do that, no soldering iron!

it depends on the firmware it's running, some can be hacked using your browser, by enabling features hidden/disabled in the webUI.

mine (not from UK though) came with the header presoldered, only needed a 5£ USB TTL.

if you want the easy way, buy the Gl.iNet GL-MT6000.

looks like aliexpress for £109.99 is the cheapest at present, Amazon want £152

Thanks for all the advice, im assuming none of these would be able to run cake etc to reduce bufferbloat

all of them would, however most likely not at 2gbit, depends on which queue discipline you apply though.

at 2gbit you're probably looking at x86.

not sure you'd need SQM with a 2gbit line.
