24.10/25.12 release and upgrade for Banana Pi R2 (Mediatek 7623)?

I'm running 23.05.6 on a Banana Pi R2 (Mediatek 7623N) and having trouble moving to a newer release. It's tough to find information about this specific device.

I've tried to boot a new clean SD card image for 25.12.4 and just get stuck in a boot loop. The hardware selector and B Pi-2 page suggest that 24.10.5 is the latest supported version, but the firmware selector and download site show a 25.12.4 release.

How do I go about clearing up my own ignorance and getting the latest available release running? If a new SD card image means redoing configuration, I can go there.

Never got 24.10 working, as upgrade or fresh card. 25.12.4 worked as a fresh install, though, and 25.12.5 attended sysupgrade today. So if you're having issues with B Pi-2 version 1.2 and 24.10, skip it.
