2.5Gbit smart switch support?

I am curious as to what OS is presently in things like the 59 dollar Gigaswitch like this, and if anyone is working on devices of this type and chipset?

what chipset ?

STH (https://www.servethehome.com/) has been doing short reviews on all sorts of these cheap multi-gig switches. They often do a quick "teardown", pulling heatsinks off anything that isn't too much work (i.e., they leave the glued-on ones in place), so you can sometimes see what's inside. Someone who knows what to look for might be able to get some information on chipsets and SoC versions from their pictures.

Most of the are probably based on RTL8372.
e.g., https://www.servethehome.com/hasivo-s600w-4gt-1sx-1xgt-se-switch-review-a-unique-use-case-realtek/

So this is the relevant thread https://forum.openwrt.org/t/collecting-information-for-rtl8372-based-switches/198776
