192.168.1.1 is taken by my ISP, how can I reach Luci for first login?

Hi!

I just bought my first openwrt-compatible router, managed to flash the firmware thanks to the awesome documentation, but can't reach openwrt.

My network setup is:

  • ISP router at 192.168.1.1
  • "Home" router at 192.168.0.1
  • Home network within 192.168.0.1/24 block
  • new router is PoE, it has no extra ehternet interfaces to attach to
  • I have a separate PoE switch between the Home router and the new router

My line of thinking:

  1. Opening 192.168.1.1 opens the ISP router page, instead of Luci
  2. As both the ISP router and the new router serves at 192.168.1.1, attaching the PoE switch between the two and connecting my laptop to the ISP router's net would not help.
  3. I can connect my computer - PoE switch - router, but then my computer won't receive any IPs and my default to a different subnet
  4. I guess, I'll need to configure a static network together with point (3)

Is my line of thinking correct? What do I need to configure to access the Luci UI?

I know the MAC address of the new router. I don't know if that helps or not.

You'll be double NATing, is that the plan ?

Disconnect the Openwrt device from the ISPs router, change the LAN subnet.

No, the plan is to make it part of the Home network to extend the in-house net to the garden. I want to change it's subnet and etc once I manage to log in.

Ok. I managed to log in by following my steps 3-4. Setting a static IP (192.168.1.2) for my laptop and connecting it directly to the non-PoE/Up-link port of the PoE switch, I managed to access Luci, and change its network settings.
