18.06.3 how is it going?

So 18.06.3 supposedly coming out in March but haven't seen any updates... hmm

The mailing list archives are at http://lists.infradead.org/pipermail/openwrt-devel/

I would imagine that 18.06.3 would be tied to the 19.0X release, either before or after it. The last mention of 19.0X that I saw on the mailing list was http://lists.infradead.org/pipermail/openwrt-devel/2019-March/016351.html on March 21st. That message suggested that there was still work to be done before 19.0X was "cut".

18.06.3 ?

18.06.x is quite separate from the planned 19.03 (or 19.04 or 19.05...), as 18.06 is a year-old source code branch and not much updated any more. Nobody is actively working on any special 18.06.3 release... If it gets released, it is merely a snapshot of the possible fixes made into the 18.06 branch. There have been some since 18.06.2 but not that much: https://git.openwrt.org/?p=openwrt/openwrt.git;a=shortlog;h=refs/heads/openwrt-18.06

Yeah, it is possible that there may be 17.01.x and/or 18.06.x maintenance releases, but do not expect much of them. Some bug fixes, but mostly just kernel minor version bumps.

19.03(/4/5/...) will be the actual new release, branched of from the current master. The current buildbot snapshots provide that today, but are meant just for testing, not for layman end-users for long-term use.

I think we can definitely use a 18.06.3, specially for mt76 devices. So many fixes were made after 18.06.2 that it would be a good thing to have a more stable 18.06 until we prepare for 19.0X.

One can always build their own off openwrt-18.06, or wait for 19.0X, which may well have many more improvements.

So Maybe I will ask here. What is the plan regarding ar71xx vs ath79 for 19.0X? Do you plan to build/release both version as both are on 4.14 kernel ?

@kofec How is your question related to this topic (18.06.3)?

You mentioned about release plans. So I asked about plans.
