18.06.3 how is it going? --> 18.06.4 --> 19.07 coming soon

There were a series of "critical" security patches to the Linux kernel that drove the releases.

So can we expect 19.07 soon, any plans for release date ?
Looking forward to new 4.14 kernel features on ath79 platform

master is already on 4.19 -- perhaps you should consider a snapshot or building your own images?

19.07 is targeted at the end of July, last I read. That said, I haven't seen an RC tag yet on the branch.

19.07 buildbots have been setup and running for a few days as seen here:
http://buildbot.openwrt.org/openwrt-19.07/images/

Here are new snapshot builds of 19.07 branch. Not for daily usage of course

Testing is encouraged of course. I've migrated all my routers to 19.07 builds already.

Is WPA3 planned for 19.0x? Specifically, the WRT series?

It is available in the full wpad package, but I don't think it is included by default, so you would need to install it.

Installed http://downloads.openwrt.org/releases/19.07-SNAPSHOT/ on both a WRT3200ACM and WRT1900ACv1.

Base WPAD is installed, but full WPAD is not available for installation. MacOS Catalina and IOS 13 betas both support WPA3. Was looking test it.

Should I roll back to 18.06.04?

You need wpad-openssl or wpad-wolfssl for WPA3 support (and, obviously, 19.07~ or current snapshots).

wpad-basic is installed. The others are not available via LuCl software install GUI. I do see them when a browse the package tree on the web under http://downloads.openwrt.org/releases/19.07-SNAPSHOT/packages/arm_cortex-a9/base/

You need to update the list of packages first

Since they conflict, you may need to remove one before installing the other

I did. received the following error.

Downloading http://downloads.openwrt.org/releases/19.07-SNAPSHOT/packages/arm_cortex-a9_vfpv3/base/Packages.sig
Signature check failed.
Remove wrong Signature file.

Current development snapshots, LuCl web interface is not accessible.

Noticed some wifi performance issues with 19.07 snapshot.

Rolling back to 18.06.04. I'll wait for a 19.07 RC

If that is because OpenWRT moved to ath10-ct driver by default, then waiting is not gonna help you.

If so, I guess my options are:

  1. @Davidc502 builds (Not fond of the extra preinstalled stuff)
  2. Custom builds (I have a day job)
  3. DD-WRT (In perpetual beta)
  4. Factory (Will likely never get WPA3 support)
  5. Put them up on eBay and replace with something else. (Mesh APs)

I run pfSense.org on a Protectli.com appliance, so I am only using the WRTs as APs.

As do I -- they are quick and reasonably painless, to the point where I don't hesitate to use one to a package. I just tested out a Celeron J4105-based ODROID-H2 (100 mm x100 mm SBC) and a make clean download world cycle took 9 minutes.

So do all of us. Image builder could be a good compromise and you can swap the CT firmware for the original ath10k one. Takes approx five to ten minutes to get a firmware image with only the packages you need.
I just built a new one and included the latest ath10k firmware from here just for testing.

You can also switch ath10k and ath10k-ct at runtime, using opkg - it's not necessary to use the imagebuilder (or buildroot) for this.

True, but the ath10k in the packages for my router is over six months old. The latest one feels snappier.
