For those who are interested.  Specifically, I'm requesting an objdump of it from someone who has the proper tools to do so.

Seems that the dump is not only a binary, which can be disassembled by objdump. An idea?

Is there some way you can disassemble it without knowing what format it's in?

EDIT:  Managed to compile binutils for mips on cygwin.  The disassembly is at least somewhat coherent, though there are large parts of strings/zeroes/data that are disassembled like everything else.

I'm going to download the Linksys source and try compiling my own CFE.  This will give me a little better bearing on what to look for, I think.

If you want to know more about CFE: the source to Belkin's version of it is in their tarball...
They should be similar....
